In Jainism, the snake symbolizes Parshvanatha, 23rd Tirthankara (Varanasi royal: King Ashwasena, Queen Vamadevi; born Pausha Krishna 11). Post-renunciation, he founded an ascetic society. Gained moksha on Mount Sammeda (pilgrimage site). Iconography features a serpent hood; worshipped with Dharanendra (snake god) and Padmavati (snake goddess).
